Pentateuch
from the Greek Pentateuchos, meaning five works. The first five books of the Old Testament, namely Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. Also called the Torah, the Law of Moses, or just the Law.
The Pentateuch includes writings about the creation of the world, primeval history, the lives of the Patriarchs, the history of the Jews, God’s covenant relationship with Israel, slavery in Egypt, the Exodus, the giving of the law, instructions for living as God’s people, tales from the wilderness wanderings, and preparation for the conquest of the promised land.
